Daddy Dialogue: Cut the Tape!

Shortly after deciding on Maddie's hearing equipment we were faced with a new challenge as a result of one of Maddison's ears being underdeveloped. One ear is somewhat turned inward so it doesn't hold the hearing aid in place. In an attempt to problem solve we were introduced to double sided tape. After years of experience with it, putting the tape on the hearing aid just right remains a problem for me. I think my fingers are too big, I lose patience, or maybe I'm just not coordinated enough to apply the tape the the hearing aids. My wife however can whip the tape on without a struggle. This small but really important step adds a layer to getting out of the house for work, school, sports practices... etc. in the mornings.

The tape wears off almost daily so re-tapping is apart of our regular routine. I have also noticed when her aids are "flapping" as we call it, it's because they aren't taped good which leaves Maddie frustrated. In these times she is constantly adjusting the aids and would rather not wear them. As a result, we have placed tape in both cars, my wife carries some in her purses and in our laptop bag so we can protect against not being prepared.

So ...as you can tell, the tape isn't my favorite thing but it helps Maddie hear so I add this to my "just get it done no mater what" list. I've been getting better with applying the tape but as often as possible I volunteer my wife to do it. LOL! We have a bit of a system, I clean all things throw up and such and she handles the tape. Fair exchange no robbery right?

The truth is it's hard, but so is regularly working out, driving the speed limit (for me), and a host of other things, but this is for daddy's princess so "Cut The Tape," no excuses. Hands get it together ... or we'll be late for work... everday! SMH!
